Customer Background
Northwest Staffing Resources is a privately owned and operated
temporary, contract and direct hire staffing organization that was
founded in May of 1985.
Its customer base includes large and small companies in a broad
array of industries. Northwest Staffing Resources offers its
customers expertise in on-site vendor programs, employee testing
and evaluation services, project management, executive search and
placement, and many other programs.
Since 1985, Northwest Staffing Resources has grown from a local
business in Portland, Oregon to a regional West Coast company with
multiple offices in Oregon, Washington, California and Idaho. It
believes that its goal for operational excellence in all aspects of
its business is what sets it apart from its competitors.
Situation
During the peak season for its food processing division, Northwest
Staffing Resources processes 500+ time cards per week for five
processing plants located in Washington, Oregon and California.
Northwest Staffing Resources needed to improve its process for
entering shift data into its staffing software system for payroll.
Specifically, Northwest Staffing Resources wanted to:
- Eliminate the burden of manual payroll processing.
- Improve data accuracy during the payroll process.
- Reduce time spent entering and verifying data.
- Dedicate more time on its area of expertise - staffing - and less
time on payroll.
Solution
Northwest Staffing Resources turned to its trusted staffing
technology provider for a potential solution to its situation. The
TempWorks answer? To develop an import feed to the TempWorks system
for employee hours that were exported from the time clock solution
used by the business.
"It's the next best thing to outsourcing payroll."
- Renee Chemarin, Northwest Staffing Resources
Results
Northwest Staffing Resources saw immediate results across the areas
that were in need of improvement:
Time. Ten to fourteen hours of manual input
dropped down to mere minutes.
Efficiency and Accuracy. One particular step -
verifying that the correct employee is being paid - has been
completely eliminated. Employee ID numbers are matched to the time
clock ID during initial setup. Now, the TempWorks system does the
job of matching the employee ID numbers, saving time and improving
accuracy.
Manpower. Staff needed to complete the payroll
process has been reduced. Before, the calculations and gritty
details for multi-state payroll were costing Northwest Staffing
Resources more manpower than it had available. With not enough
administrative workers, it couldn't meet the tight constraints of
the payroll schedule.
Client satisfaction. Since the shift data is
pulled directly from the customer's timekeeping system, they feel
confident in the accuracy of Northwest's payroll. Customers are
pleased with the fast turn-around time of payroll to multi-state
locations, and customized invoices ensure that hours are
distributed correctly to their respective cost departments to help
them manage their labor costs. Payroll has been designed to meet
their needs.
The entire payroll process has been simplified and is now completed
100 percent electronically. That helps bring Northwest Staffing
Resources closer to its goals of operating as a paperless and
environmentally friendly company.
