Employment: More Products from the TempWorks "Green" Team |
I have to admit the TempWorks' staff has been beating the "go
green" drum loudly and often lately. Quite a bit of it has focused
around our DocCenter product. I wanted to take a moment to make
others aware that we have many products which add efficiency and
convenience, help the environment, and help cut costs.
Below is a list of a few more members of our "green"
team: Applicant Portal - gives applicants access from your
website or a kiosk in your office to enter and edit their contact
information, past jobs, education, and interests. They can also
view their previous assignments as well as view their payroll
information, and print off any pay stubs they need.
Job Board- Allows
employees and applicants to view the current openings within your
organization. They are able to apply online, creating a record
automatically in the TempWorks Enterprise database.
DocCenter-
Welcome to electronic form management. Upload and store your W-4's,
I-9's and other forms that require data entry, electronic
signatures and storage. With TempWorks DocCenter the forms are
completed and automatically stored on secure servers.
Pay Cards/Direct Deposit- TempWorks has partnered with a few
different pay card providers, eliminating the cost of printing and
mailing out paychecks.
Electronic W-2's-
Employees can login and print off their W-2's for current or
previous years, eliminating your cost of printing them.
Online Time
Cards- Employees can login to TempWorks WebCenter and enter in
their hours. Once they submit it the time card will be sent to
their supervisor for approval and automatically go to
payroll.
Timeclocks-
The online time clock posts information immediately. The supervisor
will know if an employee is late for a shift- and you can respond
quickly to the unplanned absence.

TempWorks Enterprise Saved Searches |
What is a Saved Search?
A saved search is a feature available in Tempworks Enterprise software. They are a saved
set of criterions for performing a search against data in a
database. A saved search could contain a simple criterion or
complex multiple criterions. The saved search does not imply the
actual search results but rather, the filters for running those
searches. The saved search feature is available for Employee,
Customer, Order, Assignment or Contact areas.
Tired of setting up the same search filters day in and day
out?
With Enterprise's enhanced search, you not only get
to save the common search filters and run them as often as you
wish, but you also get to choose what variables to prompt the user
for. For example, a recruiter who specializes in filling accountant
positions for several customers located in different cities will be
able to choose and save the needed filters for the accountant
position- and make the zip code a prompt-able option. The next time
he/she runs the search, he gets a prompt to enter the zip
code(s).
Do you want to share your search criteria with your
co-workers?
When saving the search criteria, the user is given the choice of
sharing or keeping the search private. By sharing the search, other
users within the company are able to view, run, or edit the
search.
Do you want to save time and cut overhead
costs?
Saved searches functionality is one of Enterprise's powerful front office features.
Don't waste your time on how to search, spend it on
what to do with the results. After all, with
Enterprise's saved search functionality, your results are only a
click away!

Tips from
Staffing Venture Guru, Jack Terrana
|
Hello, TempWorks Newsletter readers! With 2009 almost over, lets
start thinking about your positioning for 2010.
If you are like most staffing companies, 2009 was a down year.
Sales are down, margins are down and you have fewer employees than
you once had. What does your marketing budget look like? Probably
not great. So what are you going do? You're going to Tweet, of
course.
If you haven't signed up for a Twitter account, now is the time to
do so. It's free and it's pretty fun once you get into it. Becoming
an active member of the Twitter community is a surefire way of
expanding your business network. You will find great candidates and
develop strong client relationships. Once you have joined, request
that your employees to do likewise. |

Twittering for the Staffing Community!
|
TempWorks Software is definitely on
top of the latest technological trends; after all, they are a
software company. Recently, TempWorks has adopted Twitter as part
of their daily activities, as a way to reach out to the staffing
community and share their ideas and trends.
When CEO Gregg Dourgarian began seeing rapid changes in the
recruiting industry,he figured out that many people were turning to
free social
media for sales and recruitment, so he decided to research and
try it out for himself.
"It has been very beneficial for me to connect with people who
have the same hobbies and passions that I do" stated Gregg.
TempWorks recently sponsored a MN recruitment event in Bloomington,
MN. The event was sold out in 75 minutes-that's social networking
at its finest! Gregg was able to connect with the organizer, Paul
Debettignies on Twitter. It was a great event, and a Twitter
success story. It's a great way to reach out to the staffing
community all over the world and to share information on staffing
trends. It's also a great way to connect with people, benefiting by
both learning from them and teaching them.
Many employees within TempWorks are avid Tweeters. Take EVP Cory Hintz for
example-he's constantly tweeting out the latest news about
TempWorks upgrades, on-site client visits and a little personal
information as well. TempWorks VP of Venture Services, Jack
Terrana, tweets daily, informing followers of the latest tips and
trends in the funding business.
Gregg has created a Twitter news stream that appears right on the
TempWorks home page, so that anyone visiting the TempWorks website
can see exactly what is going on within TempWorks Software. "It's a
great way to connect with people in the staffing industry and to
share our expertise, as well as to learn from theirs."
So whatever it is about TempWorks that interested you, you will be
sure to find the information by checking out the many tweets on the
TempWorks homepage throughout the day.

TempWorks was recently a sponsor for the MN Recruiter conference
hosted in Bloomington, MN at the Best Buy Headquarters. It was a
great event, and it was FREE to attend at that!
The special speakers were Jennifer McClure, Teresa Thompson and
Doug Berg. Jennifer shared her personal experiences with recruiting
and social media. Teresa focused on legal issues that can arise
with the use of social media. Doug Berg gave some tips on
technology and how it can help recruitment, focusing mainly on
how to beat the job boards. Overall, they did a wonderful job,
and each person walked away with valuable and useful
information.
It was a great FREE event for any type of recruiter, headhunter or
search firm to learn and network with people in their community.
Did I mention that it was free?
Paul
Debettignies was the driving force behind the entire event.
Paul is an IT Recruiter and part of a company called Nerd Search,
LLC. Check out his blog and twitter accounts. They
are both great resources for the recruiting industry!
Paul will be hosting another event similar to this within the next
couple of months-stay tuned for details!

TempWorks

Introducing Stephanie
Sparby, TempWorks' HR and Finance Manager since October of
2008. Stephanie's main responsibilities are handling the A/Pand
billing for TempWorks. She also takes care of hiring, employee
benefits, internal payroll and bookkeeping. Stephanie is also
willing to help out wherever she can, so she often ends up with
"odds and ends" to do throughout the week.
Attending St. Scholastica for her undergrad, Stephanie graduated
with a Business Management and Communications major. After
graduation, Stephanie immediately went to work for Travelers
Insurance where she handled specialty claims, which explains why
she is so detail-oriented. Currently, she is in the process of
completing her MBA from Hamline University.
When asked what she enjoys most about TempWork , Stephanie
responded, "I really enjoy working with all of the people-the
morale here is very high. I am appreciative of the genuinely nice
and friendly people that I am surrounded by daily. I also enjoy the
employee gatherings that we have a couple times a year."
When she's not busy processing payroll or dealing with billing
issues, Stephanie can be found working out, reading, playing tennis
or skiing. She recently got engaged and plans to marry in October
of 2010. |

Comparison of Twitter Clients for
Recruiting and Sales Professionals
The TempWorks Twitter client stands
out from others by its tight integration with an enterprise CRM
database, but we're still far short of the leaders when it comes to
features. Here's my take on our competition:
Seesmic
Although it's far from my favorite, Seesmic comes in three flavors -
desktop, iPhone and web - a trend
we'll see many application vendors moving towards as users
increasingly demand the best interface for the device they happen
to be using. If you're at your regular desktop, the desktop version
(which is an Adobe Air app) gives you a full-throttle of GUI
features from notifications to add-on services like TwitPic. The
web app is for workstations you just happen to be using because
you're on the run. And, the iPhone app (and, presumably other
mobile apps to come) make the best use of the small screen and
simplified menu choices.
TweetDeck
TweetDeck is my personal favorite. It allows you to create
columns for a variety of social media, including the obvious two -
Facebook and Twitter. Like Seesmic, TweetDeck is an Adobe Air app,
which means it installs easily on a wide range of desktops and
gives you that fast GUI feel that you don't get from browser-based
apps. The most irritating thing about TweetDeck is not the app
itself, but its poorly chosen startup options which, fortunately,
you can change once you have the app installed. I found the startup
white text on black background hard to read, and the default
notification settings include an unfortunately chosen tweet (as in
bird) every time you get a Twitter message.
HootSuite
HootSuite which is the one I cut my Twitter teeth on, is a RIA app
that runs from your browser and was my
early favorite. Like TweetDeck, it allows you to easily track
multiple social media accounts; and, for each account, keep a
customized set of message columns. I like the default colors on
HootSuite, and its account setup menus are much easier to use than
TweetDeck, despite it being a browser app.
| "Using
HootSuite to pass URLs is like sending your friends on a boat ride
captained by pirates". |
HootSuite, unfortunately, has suffered from instability and a
poorly chosen URL formatting facility, owly, which does nasty stuff
to your links. If you post a link in a tweet with owly, your
followers don't just get taken to the web page you wanted them to
see. Instead, they get an owly-controlled page with the desired web
page as an iframe. Using HootSuite to pass URLs is like sending
your friends on a boat ride captained by pirates.
Summary
The Twitter client landscape is evolving rapidly. Like the browser
wars from the early internet days of the 1990s, it's both exciting
and dangerous. By trying different tools, you become a pioneer -
with an arrow in your back but with great stories to tell. |
