Case Study:
The Salem Group Leverages Productivity Analysis to Increase Efficiency and Streamline Operations
Headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, The Salem Group is an independent, multi-divisional strategic staffing and workforce management company, providing world-class staff augmentation, strategic workforce solutions, web-enabled contingent/regular workforce procurement and management applications.
The Salem Group has been a TempWorks Software client since 2014. With 42 software users, the company’s divisions have approximately 6,000 active temporary employees and cut approximately 700 checks per week on average. When The Salem Group first began using TempWorks, they attempted to recreate the processes that had worked for them with their previous software system.
Increase Efficiency and Streamline Operations
“When we first started using TempWorks, we tried to match our old system rather than utilize TempWorks as it was built. When our account manager mentioned the idea of TempWorks conducting a productivity analysis, I realized that we needed outside professional help to effectively evaluate our internal processes,” says Jon Keil, Director of Corporate Operations and Compliance at The Salem Group. “Our end goal with the productivity analysis was to simplify our processes, streamline our operations, and expand our knowledge of how the software system worked best.”
In April of 2018, the TempWorks team went to The Salem Group headquarters to meet with staff members and learn more about their internal processes. After evaluating the current processes, the TempWorks team delivered specific recommendations for how to use the software system more effectively to improve efficiency and streamline operations.
Productivity Analysis Results:
- User Roles: The Salem Group had 400 different user roles created in WebCenter. After the productivity analysis, they worked towards cleaning that up to be more functional. They were able to streamline it down to 12 user roles.
- Interest Codes: The Salem Group was using interest codes instead of leveraging the keyword search. There were 1200 interest codes in the system, only half of which were active. The goal that they are now working towards is 400 active interest codes across their five divisions.
- Performance Codes: The Salem Group wanted to enhance their ability to track turnover and understand when replacements were needed. They had 30 different performance codes and their goal is reduce that number to seven performance codes.
- Integrations: The Salem Group is currently working on a Commission module integration and an integration with Equifax for WOTC.
“We have already seen a great improvement in various internal processes and we continue to work diligently towards executing the recommendations that we received from the productivity analysis. The system can do so much more than you think,” says Keil. “I highly recommend conducting a productivity analysis, either a full or an abbreviated version. The results are invaluable and worth the investment.”
