AI for staffing agencies can be confusing. It’s been made clear to firms that if they’re not investing in AI, they’re falling behind; but the details of those investments are often vague.
Because applications for AI in staffing isn’t a monolith (if you’re interested in learning more about where to start with AI, read our primer here). Different modes of AI can transform businesses in different ways. And, maybe most importantly, AI tools require a fair amount of pre-work for staffing firms; AI needs clean data inputs to generate optimal results, regardless of the application.
Staffing firms are being told to invest in AI without truly knowing what it is. What’s more, in many cases, it isn’t clear what investment in this technology is supposed to yield from an ROI perspective.
Recently, TempWorks shared a success story of one of our clients, Staffworks, and how they leveraged TempWorks native AI functionality as well as our integration partners for major cost savings and new levels of efficiency.

How Staffworks Came to TempWorks
Staffworks is an award-winning New York state-based agency that serves Central and Southern New York. The company operates in a number of verticals and role types, filling everything from light industrial to healthcare, technical, customer service and more, from career entry to professional levels.
Their operations were disrupted during the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused them to lose a number of employees while simultaneously needing to keep up with demand (many of their clients operated in essential sectors that didn’t shut down during the pandemic).
During this period of transition, Staffworks also found themselves dissatisfied with their staffing software, citing frequent outages, tools that were released in a rush and without proper functionality, and extra charges to create custom reporting.
After evaluating a number of tools, Staffworks eventually chose TempWorks, officially going live in 2022.
Leveraging the TempWorks AI Ecosystem
Staffworks was immediately satisfied with their decision to switch to TempWorks.
“Unanimously, the team said, TempWorks is a lot better [than our previous software provider],” said Todd Consilio, Staffworks’ VP of Operations. “There’s fewer system crashes. It was easier to learn. It was better to onboard people. Basically, it let us do more.”
But what really made the difference was when the Staffworks team began leveraging TempWorks AI tools, most notably SystemIQ and integration partner Whippy.
These AI tools integrated seamlessly into Staffworks’ workflow. Their process works in four simple steps:
- Recruiters use SystemIQ to create a relevant, compelling job listing in a matter of seconds.
- When candidates apply, Whippy springs into action, engaging them instantly, 24/7, with their AI recruiter, asking custom, pre-set questions to provide an initial screening.
- Candidate responses are scored against job requirements and results are delivered to recruiters.
- All details are added into TempWorks, including: candidate score, screening transcript, updated interest codes, and qualification notes.
Staffworks additionally leveraged Whippy’s AI receptionist tool to help automate other front-line requests like call-offs, injury notifications, and more.
How These Tools Translated to Savings
The cost savings of these tools were substantial because Staffworks didn’t need to backfill roles that they lost during Covid. By not having to replace the roles of 8 recruiters, 6 receptionists, and 1 salesperson, Staffworks is able to save $1.1 million each year.
These tools also translated into greater efficiency. Before leveraging TempWorks AI ecosystem, recruiters were averaging 2.72 placements per week; with the new system in place, that number jumped to 4.67. In total, Staffworks saw an increase of 74% in recruiter productivity.
Results like these are a best-case scenario for staffing firms that are curious about AI. Understanding the best way to leverage these tools to fill operational gaps in order to increase insights and supercharge candidate communication can have a transformational impact on a staffing firm’s bottom line.
